New Nuclear Propulsion Articles PublishedPublished December 11, 2018
For those of my readers who have expressed appreciation for my extensive bibliography I have good news. The latest issue of the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society (Volume 71, No, 4) contains several important new articles on nuclear space propulsion that were originally presented at the Tennessee Valley Interstellar Workshop held at Oak Ridge, Tennessee in October 2017. Especially noteworthy are “Pulsed Magnetic Propulsion for Fusion” by Jason Cassibry, Bryan Winterling and Kevin Schillo of the Propulsion Research Center at University of Alabama in Huntsville AL that appears on pp. 119-125 and “Fission Fragment Rocket: Fuel Production and Structural Considerations” by Pauli Erik Laine of the Department of Physics and Computer Science and Information Systems at the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland appearing on pp. 126-129. Also interesting is “A Science-Driven Mission Concept to an Exoplanet” by Stacy Weinstein-Weiss, Marc Rayman, Slava Turyshev, Abhijit Biswass, Insoo Jun, Hoppy Price, Eric Mamajek, John Callas, Tim McElrath, Dave Woerner, John Brophy, Mike Shao, Leon Alkalai, Nitin Arora, Les Johnson, Merav Opher, Seth Redfield, Ralph McNutt, Carol Stoker, Jennifer Blank, Douglas Caldwell, Louis Friedman, Robert Frisbee and Gary Bennett. from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Boston University, Wesleyan University, Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins, NASA Ames Research Center, and the SETI Institute on pp. 140-150.
